Jordan won't allow forced displacement of Palestinians by 'Israel': FM

At the IISS Manama Dialogue security summit in Bahrain, Jordan's Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi expressed not being able to understand how "Israel's" desire to eliminate the Palestinian Resistance group in Gaza could be possible.

"Israel says it wants to wipe out Hamas. There's a lot of military people here, I just don't understand how this objective can be realized," he said, warning that his country would undergo "whatever it takes to stop" the forced displacement of Palestinians amid heavy Israeli shelling of Gaza since October 7.

"We will never allow that to happen, in addition to it being a war crime, it would be a direct threat to our national security. We'll do whatever it takes to stop it," he confirmed.

"This war is not taking us anywhere but towards more conflict, more suffering and the threat of expanding into regional wars," Safadi continued.

Gaza governance post-war

Safadi affirmed last week that Jordan rejects any plan or idea of external governance of Gaza in the future

As quoted by Petra News Agency, Safadi said, "Jordan rejects any talk of post-war Gaza administration through Arab or non-Arab forces."

He added that peace and a political solution are required through acknowledging Palestinian rights and an independent state of Palestine.

Alongside Jordanian ties being reassessed with "Israel", the country's Foreign Ministry confirmed in a statement at the beginning of this month that "Safadi made a decision to immediately recall the Jordanian ambassador to Israel."

In addition to recalling its ambassador, Jordan's Foreign Ministry instructed officials to inform the Israeli Foreign Ministry that it is not possible for the Israeli ambassador, who had previously departed Jordan, to return to his diplomatic post.

Safadi has previously expressed that the Israeli invasion of Gaza will cause a humanitarian disaster on an immense scale "for years to come."
